Ms. Hailey Fowler with Mystic Mountain Studio is joining the Bowen for kids’ weekly art class on Wednesday afternoons!
This after school art program is for students in 2nd – 5th grade and will meet for 6 weeks at a time.
Each 6-week run will allow exploration of foundational art skills across a variety of media while focusing on a central theme. Students will create hands-on pieces, learn about artists who work in similar styles, tour current exhibitions in the gallery, build confidence, and sharpen critical thinking skills. Each 6-week run will end with an art exhibit for students to show their families and friends all their masterpieces!
The first 6-week run will be on the following Wednesdays: 8/19, 8/26, 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, and 9/23.
The theme is Fiber Arts to correspond with the Annual Quilt Show. Students will learn about the history and tradition of quilting and weaving in our area, make a faux quilt square collage from traditional quilt block patterns, explore pattern creation with tessellations, experience the creation of fabric with weaving, learn several different sewing stitches, and use them to sew a soft sculpture (aka plushie)!
Drop off is from 3:30 – 4:00. During this time students can play creative art games, practice drawing from observation, and have a snack they bring from home. From 4:00 – 5:00 students will work on the project for the day.
Pick up is from 5:00 – 5:30. While waiting for their family students will help clean the shared studio space and play verbal art games.
Cost is $160/child. Siblings can be added for a $50 discount rate of $110/child!
